Sicily is considered by many as heart of the entire Italy and a precious pearl of Mediterranean Sea. Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (see map of Sicily), is an autonomous region of Italy, on west of the southern end of the Italian peninsula, being separated from the mainland by Strait of Messina. An island of great natural beauty, it is a great all-inclusive holidays destination for tourists of all ages! The beauty of Sicily and what makes it an ideal place for holidays is a combination of climate, beaches, vacation resorts, history, deep culture, and specific art. Between this points of interests there are also many picturesque villages and resorts where you can spend many relaxing moments.
Some of the major tourist attractions of the island include Augusta (a town north of Syracuse), Cefalu (Sicily's main beach resort), Eraclea Minoa (Greek ruins located above to an attractive beach), Gole dell'Alcantara (a deep impressive gorge), Milazzo (gateway to the Aeolian Islands), Monreale (located above Palermo and which has an impressive cathedral), Mount Etna (an mpressive 3323m high active volcano), Piazza Armerina (home of impressive Roman mosaics), Ragusa (with impressive baroque architecture), Segesta (with greek temple and ruins), Sciacca (a quite port on the southern coast) and Selinunte (with impressive greek temples).

Accommodations & Tour of Palermo

Palermo is the capital of Sicily and its largest city. Originally a Phoenician, then a Carthaginian colony, the capital city is also the main travel destination of the island offering great attractions for all vacationers. Nowadays, Palermo is a modern city with all-inclusive hotels, luxury villas & apartments, family owned restaurants and museums.
Among the many historical churches from Palermo worth to a visit some of the most impresive are San Giovanni dei Lebbrosi (St. John of Lebbrosi) dating from 1072, San Giovanni degli Eremiti (St. John the Hermit), whose style includes multiple Arabic influences, the Greek Orthodox church La Martorana, also known as Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (Saint Mary of the Admiral), and San Cataldo (St. Cataldo), with its red Saracen domes.
Talking about theaters, Teatro Massimo (Great Theater) is Italy's largest (and Europe's third largest opera house) even if its seating for 1350 spectators is less than half of the original plan!
During your Sicilian vacation you should enjoy in Palermo a tour of the city and see Museo Archeologico Regionale Salinas (Salinas Regional Museum of Archeology), where you can see prehistoric cave drawings and a reconstructed portion of a Greek temple from Sicily dating back two and half millennia. Then visit Museo delle Marionette (Marionette Museum), many of its marionette being hundreds of years old.
Booking a room into all-inclusive hotels or renting one of the comfortable villas or apartments in the holidays peak season could be a serious problem in Palermo, like everywhere on the island, so it's advisable to reserve your accommodations before to travel to island Sicily, Italy.
